Wędrowne serce
Czasem, gdy zimą patrzysz w chłodne gwiazdy,
odczuwasz ruch planety, pęd jej jazdy
strumieniem galaktyki – wtedy wyścigowy
tor drogi mlecznej brzęczy niczym ul.
Mówią, że lepiej dążyć, niż osiągać cel –
przystanki to zwyczajne zawracanie głowy,
gdy jesteś w drodze. Czasami chwilowy
spokój od ziemskich wojen śni się duszy, azyl.
Światła miast się zbliżają dwójkami, trójkami,
samochody tkwią w korkach lub pełzną niemrawo,
opadłe liście w plamach błota marzną.
Nie rzucą nas na kolana, to padniemy na nie sami –
w podzięce, czci, ufności i nadziei – prawo-
rządność jest wypisana na sklepieniu nieba jasno.

Nomad Heart
Sometimes looking to the cold wintry stars
you can feel the planet move as it whirls
in the flux of the galaxy, the whole
path of the milky way buzzing like a hive.
They say it’s better to journey than arrive —
halting being the usual rigmarole
of move-along-shift. Sometimes the soul
just craves a place to rest, safe from earthly wars.
The city lights come on in twos and threes
and leaves are freezing hard in mucky pools,
cars are stuck in jams or droning home.
If we’re not brought to our knees, we’ll fall to our knees
in thanks, in praise, in trust, in hope - the rule
of law mapped clear on heaven’s ample dome.
Paula Meehan, urodzona w Dublinie, gdzie mieszka do dziś, absolwentka Trinity College, wydała 7 nagradzanych zbiorów poezji, w tym Dharmakaya i Painting Rain. Paula Meehan tworzy sztuki zarówno dla dorosłych, jak i dzieci. W szczególności można wymienić sztukę o więźniarkach Cell, oraz bajkę o tematyce ekologicznej The Wolf of Winter. Music for Dogs to zbiór trzech dramatów związanych z falą samobójstw w okresie irlandzkiego boomu gospodarczego. Wydawnictwo Dedalus Press ponownie wydało jej zbiór wierszy Mysteries of the Home z lat 80-tych oraz 90-tych. W 2015 r. Paula Meehan otrzymała prestiżową nagrodę Lawrence O’shaughnessy Award for Poetry. W latach 2013-2016 pełniła funkcję Przewodniczącej stowarzyszenia Irish Chair of Poetry Trust, oraz jest członkiem Irlandzkiej Akademii Sztuk Aosdána. Jej dwa ostatnie tomy to Imaginary Bonnets with Real Bees in Them, czyli zbiór trzech wykładów wygłoszonych w ramach profesury na University College Dublin w czerwcu 2016 r., oraz Geomantic – wiersz składający się z 81 części wydany przez wydawnictwo Dedalus Press w Dublinie w listopadzie 2016 r. W 2017 roku Paula Meehan wygrała nagrodę Cholmondeley Award w kategorii Wiersze.
Paula Meehan, born in Dublin, where she still lives, and educated at Trinity College and in the United States, Paula Meehan has published seven award winning collections of poetry including Dharmakaya and Painting Rain. She has written plays for both adults and children, notably Cell, a play about women prisoners, and The Wolf of Winter, an ecological fairy tale. Music for Dogs collects three plays concerned with suicide during the economic boom years in Ireland. Dedalus Press have republished Mysteries of the Home, seminal poems from the 1980s and the 1990s. In 2015, she received the Lawrence O’Shaughnessy Award for Irish Poetry. She was Ireland Professor of Poetry 2013-2016, and is a member of Aosdána, the Irish Academy for the Arts. Two recent volumes are Imaginary Bonnets with Real Bees in Them, her three public lectures given as part of the Professorship, from UCD Press, Dublin, June of 2016, and Geomantic, a long poem in 81 parts, The Dedalus Press, Dublin, November of 2016. In 2017 she received a Cholmondeley Award for Poetry.

She is a member of the Polish Literary Translators Association and works at the Faculty of Polish Studies at the Jagiellonian University. She currently lives just outside of Kraków.
